About:

The knowledge of our staff and partners is one of USAID’s most valuable resources, and the effectiveness of our development efforts depends in large part on how well we capture, retain, manage, share and apply this knowledge. The Agency Knowledge Management and Organizational Learning (KMOL) function facilitates effective knowledge stewardship through defining and advancing policy, practice and peer learning at USAID. 

While the Agency KMOL function is mutually reinforcing with Collaborating, Learning and Adapting (CLA), it extends beyond the Program Cycle to include organizational processes as well as programmatic ones, such as onboarding and offboarding processes designed to retain knowledge, which is one of four goals for this function. The other three goals are: strengthening knowledge cycle processes (generating, capturing, sharing and applying), including broadening our understanding and use of knowledge sources and types; programming knowledge strategically as a development resource that complements our funding resources; and catalyzing local knowledge and learning systems in the countries in which USAID works, for more locally led, impactful development. 

By protecting USAID’s knowledge resources, expanding our learning and evidence utilization, using our knowledge strategically, and supporting local actors to do the same, KMOL strengthens development impact at USAID and beyond.
