The USAID/Bangladesh “Feed the Future Livestock Production for Improved Nutrition (LPIN) Activity” utilized Collaborating – Learning – and Adapting (CLA) from start to finish.
Youth unemployment and underemployment is a major development challenge around the world and particularly in Kenya which has one of the highest rates of youth unemployment globally. This case explores the CLA approach of Kenya Youth Employment and Skills Program (K-YES), a five-year program funded by USAID that enhances employment opportunities for unemployed and underemployed Kenyan youth (aged 18-35) who have not completed secondary education.
This case draws on lessons learned from the USAID/Pakistan Community Resilience Office’s (CRO’s) “safe charity” campaign to highlight ways in which USAID and its partners can leverage CLA to improve the performance of countering violent extremism (CVE) programming.

A learning review of a health sector decentralization project in Uganda
This case study describes how the Governance, Accountability, Participation and Performance (GAPP) Program, with funding from USAID and DFID, used a CLA approach to increase effective private sector participation in local governance in Uganda.
The USAID Human Resources for Health in 2030 Program (HRH2030), which supports low- and middle-income countries to develop the health workforce needed to improve health outcomes, has been supporting the Colombian Family Welfare Institute (ICBF) since April 2018 to strengthen the Colombia social service workforce through funding from the USAID Bureau for Democracy, Conflict and Humanitarian Assistance (DCHA) Center of Excellence on Democracy, Human Rights, and Governance (DRG) Displaced Children and Orphans Fund (DCOF).
The Luke Commission (TLC) is a local NGO in the Kingdom of Eswatini that provides comprehensive medical care to under-served populations through mobile hospital outreaches and at a centrally-located fixed facility. Faced with substantial staff growth, TLC used a CLA approach to ensure that its unique organizational culture of compassionate care was both preserved and deepened.
This case examines the efforts undertaken by the PROGRESS Consortium to operationalize a Project-level global Learning Agenda across 10+ Activity teams. In socializing our global Learning Agenda, our team has considered our overall vision, alongside our consortium's opportunities and constraints towards achieving this vision (this is an act of managerial acrobatics in itself).
