Recently, the DRG Center presented the findings from six DRG Integration Case Studies (Ethiopia, Indonesia, Rwanda, Guatemala, Malawi and Nepal) to 50 representatives of key USAID offices, universities, and implementing partners. Now we present our Synthesis Report, which gathers all of the evidence and synthesizes lessons for the entire agency. Considering the speed at which technology evolves, best practices also continue to evolve for building, maintaining and measuring the effectiveness of these modern communities. This report attempts to outline and discuss key lessons learned to date and provide several recommendations based upon available evidence and expert opinion. But each CoP – defined here as a group of professionals with similar interests – is unique in purpose and must find its own path to success.

Twitter is a form of online communication known as micro-blogging, which allows users to engage and interact with a diverse audience through short messages. Posts on Twitter are known as tweets and are restricted to 140 characters or less. In addition to posting tweets, users can also follow and view updates from others, post public replies, or send private direct messages. Through Twitter, development practitioners can build an online presence and increase the visibility of their work, build relationships, foster dialogue and utilize additional channels for knowledge sharing.
