Description
2024 Winner

The Government of Tanzania (GoT) is dedicated to enhancing governance through evidence-based decision-making by investing in Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) and hosting Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL) Week. This initiative is designed to foster collaboration among various stakeholders and utilize modern tools to improve the impact and effectiveness of public policies and programs.

The inaugural MEL Week conference in 2022 was highly successful, leading to the recommendation for an annual event. In 2023, USAID awarded the USAID Tanzania Monitoring, Evaluation, Learning, and Adaptation (USAID/T-MELA) Activity to International Business Initiatives (IBI) and Social Impact. This initiative supports USAID/Tanzania in enhancing its MEL capabilities using the Collaborating, Learning, and Adapting (CLA) approach. USAID/T-MELA partnered with Tanzania’s Prime Minister's Policy, Parliament, and Coordination Office (PMO-PPC), the Directorate of Government Performance Monitoring and Evaluation, and the Tanzania Evaluation Association (TanEA) to organize the second MEL Week. USAID/Tanzania sponsored, and USAID/T-MELA contributed through session moderation, professional training, and keynote addresses. Planning is underway for the third annual MEL Week in September 2024.

The sponsorship by USAID and USAID/T-MELA has strengthened M&E practices in Tanzania. MEL Week aims to promote M&E practices among professionals, foster a culture of M&E within public institutions, and facilitate the exchange of information and best practices among national and international experts. These events offer participants valuable insights into current M&E challenges and opportunities across both public and private sectors.
