Aligning strategies and priorities between external (client programs) and internal (organizational) KM is challenging. Save the Children’s Department of Global Health has recently completed the design of several different KM strategies at the organizational, project, and country office levels. During this session, we’ll talk about the processes and resources used to develop those strategies and the many lessons learned. We’ll also discuss the general outlines of the strategies, which you can consider when designing strategies for your own project or organization. Throughout the session, we’ll focus on specific, practical tips that you can use, and we welcome others to share their experiences and questions. 

Speakers:

Kate Howell is a Senior Specialist for Knowledge Management and Communications with Save the Children’s Saving Newborn Lives (SNL) Program.  Her primary focus is on facilitating knowledge exchange among newborn health stakeholders at the project, organizational, country, and global levels to ensure that they have access to the evidence, innovations, and expertise that equip them to effect change.  Kate’s skills include conducting KM assessments and developing strategies, advising on methods for knowledge exchange, designing and facilitating KM workshops, documenting and disseminating evidence, designing intranets, and monitoring and evaluating KM activities.  Previously, Kate served as a KM Specialist at University Research Co. (URC) and as an analyst for the World Bank’s KM and learning programs.  She holds her M.A. in International Development from the University of Denver.

Erin Shea is a Senior Specialist, Documentation & Resource Development for Save the Children’s Department of Global Health. In this role, she leads departmental knowledge management to routinely capture and share programmatic and operational learning, while working closely with staff to ensure linkages with agency priorities. Her skills include documentation and reporting, strategy development, intranet and website management, brand compliance, and communications/KM training. Erin previously served as a Communications Advisor for John Snow, Inc. and partner World Education for various bilateral programs throughout Africa and Asia, and as a Communications Specialist for EnCompass LLC. She holds her M.S. in Journalism from the Boston University College of Communication.
