Remote Developmental Evaluation: A Guide for Funders and Practitioners

USAID/Indonesia's Developmental Evaluation (DE) for USAID Jalin developed a Guide to Remote Developmental Evaluation for practitioners and funders that captures broadly applicable learnings and methods for successfully implementing DEs virtually. The DE approach to evaluation seeks to enhance programs by strengthening innovation and adaptation, in part through physically embedding evaluators within projects. This has been challenged by the COVID-19 pandemic which has forced a shift to remote work.

To share the important lessons captured in the Guide, Dr. Michael Quinn Patton, author of the 2010 landmark book Developmental Evaluation, hosted a webinar through his Blue Marble Evaluation network on February 25, 2021. Over 220 participants from five continents engaged in the launch event with USAID comprising approximately one-third of the audience, and additional participants from ASEAN, UN, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, and Clinton Health Access Initiative.
